This Ultimate Taco Pie is the ultimate easy weeknight dinner — packed with seasoned ground beef, melty cheese, and classic taco flavors all baked into one hearty, sliceable pie. With a fluffy Bisquick-style topping that magically forms its own crust while baking, this family-friendly recipe comes together in minutes and delivers bold Tex-Mex flavor in every bite. Ultimate Taco Pie
Ingredients
Meat Filling
1 lb 450g ground beef
1 small onion finely diced
1 packet 1 oz taco seasoning (or 2 tbsp homemade blend)
½ cup water
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
½ cup salsa medium or mild
Batter (Creates the “Impossible” Crust)
½ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup milk
2 large eggs
½ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
Optional Toppings (After Baking)
Sour cream
Diced tomatoes
Shredded lettuce
Sliced olives
Jalapeños
Avocado or guacamole
Instructions
Preheat Oven
Preheat to 400°F (200°C).
Lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish.
Cook the Beef
In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and onion until browned.
Drain excess grease.
Stir in taco seasoning and water.
Simmer 3–4 minutes until slightly thickened.
Spread mixture evenly into prepared pie dish.
Add Cheese & Salsa
Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the beef.
Spoon salsa lightly over the top.
Prepare the Batter
In a bowl, whisk together:
Flour
Milk
Eggs
Baking powder
Salt
Mix until smooth.
Assemble
Slowly pour batter evenly over the meat and cheese.
(It will look thin — that’s normal!)
Bake
Bake 25–30 minutes, until:
Center is set
Top is lightly golden
A knife inserted in center comes out clean
Cool & Serve
Let rest 5–10 minutes before slicing.
